Trojanette Soccer Preview
It’s that time of year again. The Troy Buchanan Trojanettes Girls soccer team started practice more than three weeks ago and are approaching their first game of the 2000 season, a contest this Thursday at Lutheran-St. Charles. Things look a little different around the Trojanette practices this season. Brooke Nett, the program’s all-time leading scorer, is currently the starting right fielder for the Southeast Missouri State Softball team. Also absent from the practices are Angie Milosevich, Mandy Gutermuth, and Julie Hoeft, who have all decided not to play soccer this season. One addition to the practices this season is the addition of Coach Phil Brock, who has been brought on to coach the JV team. Coach Brock also coaches the JV boys soccer team. Leo Pagano will serve as the assistant coach on the Varsity team. The Trojanettes return nine players form last season’s team, which accounted for the first non-losing season in the program’s history with a 10-10-3 record. This season will again see Danielle Moxley and Kim Pietzman splitting time in goal. This duo combined for a 2.00 GAA last season. The team will also return the core of their defense in Melissa Clark, Ashley Blair and Jaime Kaibel. The defense will have to follow up a good performance last season with an even better one this year if the team is going to succeed. Of the 33 goals that the Trojanettes scored last season, the players who scored 32 of those goals are no longer around to provide the team’s offensive.
